Chief Executive
Salary: Circa £220,000 + £9,500 car allowance + bonus opportunity up to 12.5%
Location: Hybrid; Head Office, Coventry – with regular travel to all ExtraCare locations
About the Role
As Chief Executive, you will lead ExtraCare Charitable Trust across its villages and services, spanning housing, development, wellbeing and care. ExtraCare operates a distinctive model, bringing these elements together to create communities for older people, with a clear focus on quality of life, independence and connection, and a tangible difference in people’s day to day lives.
With the current corporate plan coming to an end, and the retirement of the Chief Executive, your accountability will include shaping and delivering the organisation’s next phase of strategy and corporate planning, ensuring this remains financially sound and aligned to ExtraCare’s purpose and values. This includes oversight of performance, financial sustainability, risk and governance, alongside leadership of the Executive team and wider organisation. Clear direction, consistent delivery and sound judgement will be key, particularly in balancing longer term ambition with day to day operational performance.
The role combines strategic and operational leadership, with responsibility for ensuring that services across housing, care and wellbeing are well led, consistent and responsive to residents. This includes maintaining a close understanding of the lived experience within villages, alongside working across development, asset management and support services to ensure the model continues to evolve in line with future demand.
Working with the Board and colleagues across the organisation, you will shape the next phase for ExtraCare, bringing vision and creativity to how the direction is defined and carried through into delivery. This includes identifying opportunities for growth, partnership and innovation, while maintaining a clear focus on performance, accountability and organisational resilience.
Ultimately, this is an opportunity to lead ExtraCare into its next phase, building on what is already strong and shaping something that continues to make a meaningful difference for residents and communities.
About You
This role will suit an experienced Chief Executive or senior leader who is confident operating across both strategy and delivery, bringing the ability to set clear direction while remaining close to operational performance, ensuring that ambition is carried through in practice and reflected in the quality of services delivered across the organisation.
Alongside this, a clear sense of vision and experience of leading through change and transformation are essential, including the ability to take the organisation forward in a way that builds on its strengths while providing clear direction for what comes next.
A collaborative approach will underpin how you work, particularly through close engagement with the Board, Executive team and colleagues across the organisation to build alignment and maintain momentum. Externally, you will be a visible advocate for ExtraCare, representing the organisation and building effective relationships across partners in housing, health and the wider sector.
A genuine connection to ExtraCare’s purpose is equally important, with an interest in the communities it serves and in how services are experienced across its villages informing your approach and the decisions you make, alongside an appreciation of the difference this work makes to people’s day to day lives.
